A deliberately small shortlist

Up to five finalists are named per category — sometimes fewer, never to fill a slot. Reaching the shortlist means an entry cleared a demanding, evidence-based bar. Every finalist also qualifies automatically, and free of charge, for the Annual Awards in late January.
